Two-time iliad Literary-Art Magazine Editor-in-Chief Olivia Hendershot unveils this year’s magazine.

The 49th edition of the iliad Literary-Art Magazine was published May 5, and distribution began on May 19. The magazine contains the written and visual contributions of 53 students, which the iliad’s Editorial Board curated in February.

“The 2025 iliad called “Sound & Color” represents the relationship between sound and color, commonly known as chromesthesia. The works of art and writing we chose this year followed the themes in three subsections, so we could exhibit a plethora of styles,” Hendershot said.

The iliad Editorial Board invited student musicians from Clarke Central High School to create musical accompaniments for each of the magazine subsections: Surge, Discord and Echo.. “Sound & Color” offers interactive elements, such as musical performances, student spotlights and stories that can be found online.

“Being able to invite other overlooked artists from our school, like musicians, into the magazine was really exciting,” Hendershot said.“I got to work with five different musicians, all of whom had different mediums, create pieces based on the subjections I assigned to them.”

The iliad featured 96 patrons from the program's spheres of influence throughout the year, which left the team grateful and excited.

“I feel really excited about the magazine release. Finalizing all the patrons and getting things in order for when they come in has made things set in,” iliad Managing Editor Victoria Garland said. “I know Ollie, along with the (Editorial Board) have put a lot of effort into the actual product, so I’m very excited to be able to finally share it with everyone.”

The iliad has been consistently published since 2002 at Clarke Central High School. Throughout the last 22 years, the magazine has been commended by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Georgia Scholastic Press Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Scholastic Press Association and the Southern Interscholastic Press Association.

Adviser David Ragsdale was also eager to see the debut of the magazine.

“Olivia and her team worked diligently to make this year’s magazine a reality.  Relying on her hard-earned experience, people skills and delegation, Olivia brought off a beautiful magazine that will inspire staff to come,” Ragsdale said.
