submission guidelines

The iliad accepts a wide range of art and writing submissions. Some examples of pieces that have been featured in the magazine include poetry, paintings, digital art, sculptures, music, short stories, personal essays, and book reviews.

When submitting, contributors will provide their name, grade level, the title of the piece, medium of piece, and contact information via the submissions Google form.

Once all submissions have been reviewed and the submission period is officially closed, all artists will receive an email on the status of their submission, i.e. if it will be placed in the iliad or not. Please note that not all submissions will be accepted, but you are welcome to submit as many pieces as you want!

submissions policies

artwork submissions

Artwork should be treated as a priority as it cannot be reproduced. Submitted art should be left only in the charge of the Visuals Director or a member of the Leadership Team (Editors-In-Chief and Managing Editor) to ensure that it is scanned and photographed as soon as possible for the original work to be returned to the creator within two days of receiving it. Submitters should communicate individually with the Editors-in-Chief, Managing Editor, or Visuals Director in order to determine a time in which their artwork can be picked up or dropped off to be scanned/photographed for the magazine.

written submissions

Written submissions should all have an online version, accessible by Google Drive and shared with the Editorial Board. We will accept printed versions of written works, but only if it is also accessible by Google Drive. No solely hand-written submissions will be accepted.

editing policy

Errors in submissions can be pointed out by any member, but the editing process should remain under the control of the Leadership Team to ensure quality. If there are significant issues with a piece of writing, then the piece may only be edited with permission from the author and in collaboration with them. If consent to edit is granted, pieces should be edited by the Writing Director. In the case in which authors overturn editing access, the piece will then be passed on to the Co-Editors-In-Chief to consider. There is no guarantee the piece will be included in the magazine. Authors are welcome to come in and work on pieces during an iliad meeting or editor work session or other time scheduled via email with ohendershot@odysseynewsmagazine.net.

sensitivity

The iliad, as a student publication under the domain of the Clarke County School District, must be mindful when choosing submissions of the appropriateness of its content, as it is a representation of CCSD and its values. A piece of questionable appropriateness needs to be vetted by the club’s adviser David Ragsdale. Inappropriate content may be edited by the creator, but the integrity of the work and of the magazine will always be preserved.

AI-generated work

The iliad published authentic art and written pieces from Clarke Central High School community members. If an artificially generated piece is submitted to the iliads submission form, it will not be considered during the publishing process. We publish creativity.
