“Gold, Silver, and Bronze”; A Portfolio by Peter Atchley

iliad Editor-in-Chief Margo McDaniel compiled ODYSSEY Media Group Managing Editor Peter Atchley’s Creative Writing Project into a miniature magazine.

Peter Atchley is a senior at Clarke Central High School and the Managing Editor for the ODYSSEY Media Group. Atchely has had two writing pieces published in past issues of the iliad Literary-Art Magazine, including a free verse poem titled “Drag is Burning” in the 48th volume, “Prometheus,” and a short story titled “Cannibal to Curiosity” in the 49th volume, “Sound & Color.”

Each year, members of the ODYSSEY Media Group participate in an annual Creative Writing Project. In the project, which is planned and facilitated by the iliad Editorial Board, students of the ODYSSEY Production class and Journalism 1 class work to create a portfolio of creative writing pieces. The pieces include, but are not limited to, closed-form and free verse poetry, prose, dramatic writing and open creative works. The students are also required to have a theme all of the pieces in the project correlate to.

“Each piece (in my project) explores my feelings, thoughts and emotions as they respond to the idea of winning and losing told alongside frequent metallic metaphors. I chose this theme as both a love letter and eulogy to my own competitive spirit as impacted by recent personal experiences.”

- Peter Atchley, author of “Gold, Silver, and Bronze”

While the iliad only features a maximum of two pieces from a single artist in our annual magazine, Atchley’s work on his CWP was outstanding, and we wanted to highlight his creativity on our website as a means of inspiring others. iliad Editor-in-Chief Margo McDaniel has designed a compilation of Atchley’s pieces under the theme of “Gold, Silver, & Bronze” into a miniature magazine that’s available to view online.
